Max Planck Services

As you may have experienced by now, a lot of services and computational capacities neccessary for your work are provided directly and locally by the MPI MIS. But, since the Max Planck Society (MPG) has more than 80 institutes in Germany and other countries, many of them have demand for similar services.

This is why several of them have been centralised at the MPG and the Society for Scientific Data Processing (GWDG). The included services can be found below, but since these services are not provided locally, they also do not use our login credentials.

In the days following your arrival you will receive an e-mail containing a password. The Subject of the e-mail will be “Password for MPG and GWDG services”.

Please note: Not all MPI members have sufficient permissions to access all services!

MAX - Intranet (“WIKI”) of the Max Planck Society
OHB - the Max Planck Society organization manual
Edmond - The Open Research Data Repository of the Max Planck Society
Extranet - The Max Planck Extranet
SAP - Here you can find your online Pay Stub (eProcurement, Asi, xFlow etc.)
ShareLatex - online Access to Latex/Overleaf
GWDG - Computational and other IT services at the GWDG (a Max Planck service data center)

Credentials

There are two SSO (single sign on) repositories in use inside the MPG - but both are using the same login credentials.
If you are a staff member, postdoc or other long-term visitor, you will receive an email a few days after your arrival with the necessary login details and some other information.
Please note: The login and password for these external services are different from your regular MPI MiS login and password.
The loginname is your default MPI MiS email address (i.e. xxxx@mis.mpg.de), the Pssword you will receive in an Email with the Subject “Password for MPG and GWDG services”

Depending on the chosen service you will see one of the following workflows.

Version 1: MAX, OHB, Edmond, Extranet…

As the term single sign on suggests, once you are logged into one of these services you will be automatically logged in with all other services as well until your session ends.

Click the tiny flag to switch the language between English and German
open the Drop-Down Menu and select the MPI for Mathematics in the Sciences and click Next

Now you have to enter your institutes mail address and the password you received via Email

enter your respective 2FA. If you do not see this window, 2FA is not yet active on your account. 2FA is currently not mandatory, but eventually it will be required to enhance the security of your account. Changes to the login process will be announced with enough time to prepare. If you would like to activate 2FA in advance, please contact the IT department.

Version 2: All GWDG-services

unlike the MAX and OHB Login, at the GWDG services you do not have to select your institute first.
Step by step enter your Username/Email-Address, Password and second factor authentication, if you have it activated.
